A threshold is not a line, but a field — not a point, but a period.
It does not mark the boundary itself, but the moment in between: between arriving and departing, between letting go and arriving, between no longer and not yet.
For this exhibition, Erki De Vries and Freija Van Esbroeck, together the company WIThWIT, bring together a selection of multidisciplinary artists alongside their own work:
Michiel Alberts, Ilke De Vries, Ruben Bellinkx, and Sibran Sampers.
You move through (light) installations, sculptures, photographs, and videos. They are situated on borderlands between human, animal, and thing, reality and fiction, poetry and absurdity. Some works call for stillness and attention, while others literally set you in motion. All works have a link to theater or performance in their own way. What connects them is their position in the interstitium — the gap between two states. They are not captured in a clear before or after, but move in the space in between. Whoever steps over the threshold notices that the space feels different.
Slower. More attentive. More sensory.
With the exhibition Thresholds, we invite you to take time, to slow down and pause. To be present in the moment where one transitions into the other.
