Everything brings us back to the body

Iranian-Belgian choreographer Ehsan Hemat began his dance career in 2000 and has since collaborated with diverse artists from various disciplines, including William Forsythe, Felix van Groeningen, Goele van Dijk, Mokhallad Rasem, and Hooman Sharifi. In this performance, he explores what the human body is capable of with an 18-kilogram copper plate. Hemat draws inspiration from the poetry of Persian poet Rumi, Cameroonian philosopher Achille Mbembe, and the Gaia theory. He uses these ideas to play with reflection and echo. The result is a duet between the human and the non-human as equal partners.
The performance unfolds as a dialogue between the body and the earth's core polished to perfection, employing movement, sound, and voice to explore both intimacy and resistance. Beneath the beautiful imagery lies a deeper message: a confrontation with a past of exploitation, ecological disruption, and the universal right to breathe.
