Birdwatching is the result of a fascination for observation and perception, shared by visual artist Erki De Vries and choreographer Benjamin Vandewalle. They question the way we experience our surroundings, and how that experience can influence the space itself, and that question was the starting point of their installation-performance Birdwatching. With their installation they try to visualise various levels of observation, by a constant redefining of the relationship between body and space, like atoms that attract and repel each other and change from one form into another.
In Birdwatching the members of the audience are immersed in a sensory universe of constant change. Dancers, space and audience become part of a choreography that constantly redefines their mutual relationship. Each member of the audience is challenged to explore the boundaries of their own experience from a very personal perspective. In an environment where space and body constantly redefine each other, nothing is what it appears to be at first glance…
